Bits and Pieces

There was lots of drama at around the 13-hour mark. The big story was the loss of the lead for the McLaren when it encountered wastegate problems. It took 43 minutes to repair and the No. 7 ARC Bratislava Porsche has opened up a five lap lead over the new second place car, Guttroff Corvette.

Elsewhere on pit lane the No. 51 HM Motorsport Citroen had an odd series of issues. The driver was having trouble engaging gears and brought the car in for what should have been a “quick” repair of the dog gear. But then the ignition system failed and team spent a long, long time essentially taking apart the fuel injection among other components. It turned out that the camshaft was stripped. Barring a miracle of the correct spec full racing cam falling into their laps, the Danish squad may be done.

The No. 29 Sorg BMW, that had an engine change earlier, came back with a serious loss of power which the team believes has an electronic aspect to the problem. The No. 47 Lotus is having a major oil line replaced. Another car is joining the engine change club as the No. 55 SVDP Racing BMW 120d is about halfway through the transplant procedure. The No. 36 Sally Racing Renault Clio was hit at Turn One, requiring a rebuild of the axle assembly plus some bodywork before it can sally forth again.
