Preparations Dunlop 24H DUBAI 2013 at full speed

Behind the scenes, hard work is going on at CREVENTIC’s headquarters in The Netherlands in preparation for the Dunlop 24H DUBAI, to be held at the Dubai Autodrome from January 10th till 12th, 2013. The Dutch agency, in co-operation with the DNRT, is responsible for organisation and promotion of the event, the first international endurance race of the new year for touring cars, GTs and 24H specials.

Before the ships with cars and equipment set sail to Dubai at the end of November, teams can still register until October 15th. The maximum number of competitors has almost been reached already. “We even have more entries than for this year’s successful race, and that in spite of the challenging economic conditions at the moment,” says Gerrie Willems on behalf of CREVENTIC. Willems particularly points out the interest from touring car teams: “Touring cars are filling about one third of the grid, a clear proof that our special rate with an entry fee of 5,000 Euros has worked well. Especially the two-litre class A2 with Mini’s, Clios, Lotus and a Citroën, has a strong entry with ten cars and promises a nice battle.”

An impressive field of GT cars
The field of GT cars for the eighth running of the Dunlop 24H DUBAI can rightfully be called impressive. For instance, the separate class for Porsche 997 Cup cars is particularly popular with no less than twelve entries, while 25 GT3 cars have been registered for the A6 class. Depending on the driver line-up, these cars will be allocated to the A6-PRO or A6-AM division. Some ten cars have also been entered for the SP2 cars with specials like the Renault Mégane Trophy Silhouette, Marcos Mantis, GC Automobile and the new Brokernet Goldsting. Another 13 cars have been registered for the SP3-class, mainly featuring GT4 machinery.

Miscellaneous news around the Dunlop 24H DUBAI
The high-quality merchandise items were in great demand during previous editions of the Dunlop 24H DUBAI. For the 2013 race, a new polo shirt will be produced and a new TW STEEL watch has been announced as a ‘limited edition’. Moreover, many competitors are already looking forward to the official Welcome Party in the Dubai Autodrome paddock on the Wednesday evening prior to the race. In typical Arab hospitality, this party with barbecue is an excellent opportunity to make new contacts and to catch up with old friends. There couldn’t be a better start of the event! In the upcoming race, all teams will be using the ‘driver-ID’ function on the timing system, so that it is clear at any time which driver is in the car. This makes the race even more exciting to follow.

Dubai, always worth a trip!
The Dunlop 24H DUBAI has enjoyed increasing popularity over the years and has become firmly established on the international motor racing calendar. The city of Dubai itself is a hospitable and pleasant destination to spend a few days in the sun, especially during the cold European winter months. Luxurious shopping malls, the famous gold and spice souks, desert adventures with camels or four-wheel driven cars and a range of sporting facilities, from sailing and golf to skiing on sand or snow: Dubai has it all! Moreover, there is a wide variety of hotels, from five-star luxury hotels to affordable three-star accommodations. And for gourmets, there are restaurants galore.
